Rayalaseema Thermal Power Project – A boon to Seema

Rayalaseema Thermal Power Project, popularly known as RTPP is located at Kalamalla of Yerraguntla mandal in Kadapa district. The project is located at a distance of 8 Kms. from Muddanur Railway station of South Central Railway on Chennai-Mumbai line. This is one of the major power generation facilities developed in Andhra Pradesh to meet the growing demand for power. It is spread in about 2,800 acres of land.

The water requirement of the project is to be met from the Brahmam Sagar Reservoir which is 70+ Kms. away from the project. The project envisaged the installation of 2×210 MW Unit coal based thermal power generation units under stage I, which came for commercial operation on 25.11.1994 and the Second

Unit on 30.3.1995. At present the generation of power in Unit-1 is 1463.866 Million Units and 1423.792 Million Units in Unit-2.

The Second stage of the project 2×210 MW (Units 3 & 4) envisaged during 1994 has been cleared and the same is commissioned in the year 2007 (Unit 3 on 25-01-2007 and unit 4 on 20-11-2007).

The third stage of the project 2×210 MW (Units 5 & 6) envisaged during 2007 has been cleared and the Unit 5 is commissioned in the year 2010 (29.11.2010). Unit6 works are in progress.

The performance of the units of this project has been achieved distinction in power generation. The Central Electricity Authority has awarded several medals to this project for outstanding performance.

The Station is performing well by achieving the highest Plant Load Factor. It stood First in the Country during 1998-99, 2000-01, 2002-03 & 2003-04 and stood Second during 1999-2000 and 2000-01.

RTPP has been the recipient of Meritorious Productivity Awards instituted by the Government of India for seven consecutive years. It also got the Incentive Award for eight consecutive years. The Station has bagged Bronze Medal for the year 1997-98 and Gold Medal for six consecutive years 1998-99, 1999-2000, 2000-01, 2001-02, 2002-03 & 2003-04.

Thus the Project stands as a boon for the Rayalaseema region.
