PADMABHUSHAN BOMMIREDDY NARASIMHA REDDY – A DOYEN OF TELUGU FILM

Padmabhushan Dr. Bomireddi Narasimha Reddy holds a special place in the history of Telugu Cinema. He is the director who balances artistic values and business needs in the right proportion. A commemorative postal stamp on  BN Reddy was released by the Department of Posts, Government of India on the occasion of the Centenary Celebrations of Dr. B.N. Reddy, a doyen of Telugu Film Industry. He made classic films like Vande Mataram (1939), Swargaseema (1945) and Malleswari (1951). He is the first person from South India to receive the ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ in 1975. He was honoured with Padmabhushan in 1974.” Read the rest of this entry »

CROPS AND SOIL OF KADAPA DISTRICT

Kadapa district is endowed mainly with red and black soils ranging from poor to fertile soils. The soil of the district  has been classified into red ferruginous soil and black spoil. These two classes can be sub divided into clay, loam sand with finer distinctions.  Red soils occupy 53% of the cultivated area and are mostly situated in L. R. Palli, Rayachoty, Rajampet, Pulivendla and Kodur Mandals.  These soils have a low nutrient status. Black corson soil lands are 24%, black soil 19%, sandy soil lands 4%, red soil lands 25%. Rayachoti is the headquarters of the constituency and it is one of the major towns of Kadapa district. Rayachoti is well connected to Bangalore by road and is at a distance of 180 km. From old inscriptions it is clear that the original name was Raja-vTdu (Rachaveedu) or the ” king’s dwelling-place; ” but the early history of the village is obscure and it is impossible to say to what dynasty the king or chief who settled here belonged. Irrigation (Projects) in Kadapa District

Irrigation in Kadapa district is through major, medium and minor irrigation projects. There are 4 major, 5 medium completed irrigation projects in the district. The major irrigation projects are 1) Kurnool-Kadapa canal 2) TBP HLC Stage-I, 3) TBP HLC Stage-II (Mylavaram) and 4) Pulivendula Branch canal with a total ayacut of 2,27,896 acres. The five completed medium irrigation projects are 1.Lower Sagilru Project 2) Upper Sagileru Project 3) Pincha Project 4) Buggavanka Project and 5) Annamayya Project with a total ayacut of 55,625 acres. Tense Situation in Kadapa

atlurKADAPA, Dec20: A tense situation prevailed on Sunday in Pulivendula and Kadapa where mobs protesting against the arrest and hospitalisation of Congress leader Y. S. Vivekandanda Reddy attacked public property on Saturday night causing a loss estimated by Inspector General of Police R. P. Thakur at Rs. 10 crore.

Deploring the arrest of Mr. Reddy, younger brother of former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, agitators ransacked the tahsildar office, BSNL telephone exchange, Roads and Buildings Executive Engineer’s office, sub-treasury and a post office in Pulivendula. Student immolates self over arrest of Viveka

Kadapa, Dec. 20: A tense environment is prevailing in Kadapa district with MLC Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy’s arrest on Saturday evening.

Irate protesters resorted to vandalism from Saturday night and this continued on Sunday. Public life was completely disturbed with the three-day bandh called by agitators protesting against Mr Vivekananda Reddy’s arrest. An ITI student Chandrashekar, upset with the arrest, committed suicide by self-immolation after dousing himself with kerosene in Lingala. He belonged to Yellanur in Anantapur district. Police arrested Viveka

KADAPA, 19th Dec’09: The five-day-old fast by Mr. Vivekananda Reddy, MLC, was foiled by the police who arrested and shifted him to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences where he announced his decision to continue the fast and warded off doctors who tried to treat him. Condemning Mr. Reddy’s arrest, an all-party committee spearheading the united Andhra movement called for a 72-hour bandh in the district.

The Kadapa police under the supervision of the superintendent of police, Mr D.S. Chauhan, foiled MLC Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy’s fast-unto-death for unified state as his health condition deteriorated in front of the collectorate here on Saturday evening.

His fast entered fifth day on Saturday. Protesters and activists resisted Mr Vivekananda Reddy’s arrest, but the police arrested and sent him to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims).

During the arrest, some policemen and protesters fell on the ground as a scuffle took place at the camp. A large number of police forcibly entered the fasting camp and sent Mr Vivekannda Reddy to the Rims in his own car.

Protesters tried to obstruct the superintendent of police but the police sent him in a traffic vehicle. Police, who noticed low attendance at the camp as protesters concentrated on rail roko programme, foiled Mr Vive-kananda Reddy’s fast tho-ugh the latter said his health was in good condition. The MLC continued his fast in the hospital. The agitators shouted slogans against the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah and the home minister, Ms P. Sabitha Indra Reddy. The irate protesters ransacked windowpanes of five lorries in Vempalle and an RTC bus in Kadapa.

They set fire to the BSNL office at Pulivendula.
