Atti(Hatya)rala – Sacred Temples

 Attirala is an uninhabited village.

There is the temple of sri Thretheswara swamy in the form of a stone sivalingam. According to tradition there lived a Rakshasa by name Threthasura in Thretayuga who brought misery not only to man kind but to sages also. Then to get rid of him, sage Narada and other Maharshis peformed a yagna in propitiation of lord Eswara. Eswara came out from the homa gundam in the form of a Tejo lingam and emancipated the rakshasa by killing him. Gandikota Fort

Gandikota is a small village (Lat. 140 47? N. and Long. 780 16?S.) on the Right Bank of the river Pennar, in Jammalamadugu taluk of Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh. Here lies the famous fort of Gandikota, which acquired its name obviously due to the gorge, formed between the Erramalai range of hills, also known as Gandikota hills and the river Pennar that flows at its foot, reducing its width to a mere 300 ft. Situated amidst beautiful landscape and wild forests, it is endowed with great potentialities of natural strength. Surrounded by a deep valley and impassable hills, with massive boulders of red granite and the river Pennar that flows about 300 ft. Guarded by a huge entrance gate that’s 20 feet high and 101 bastions each over 40 feet high, it still remains a very imposing structure. Believed to have been built during the later half of the 13th century A.D., Gandikota impressed the French traveler Tavernier, so much that he opined that it resembles Hampi Vijayanagara in its massive monuments.Below on the west and northern sides, it affords strong natural defiance to the occupants of the Fort. TALLAPAKA – BIRTH PLACE OF ANNAMACHARYA

Tallapaka is a village in Rajampet mandal of Kadapa district. The village has the distinction of being the birthplace of Saint Annamacharya the famous composer of devotional songs on Lord Venkateswara who made invaluable contribution to music and literature during the 15th century.He composed more than Thirty two thousand devotional hymns - Sankeerthanas.  These keerthanas were set to Carnotic style of music and are very popular throughout India.

LANKAMALA SANCTUARY

Spread over an area of 464.42 sq. km. in Kadapa district this sanctuary lies at a distance of 60 km (15 km by walk) from Cuddapah. The sanctuary has deep gorges and steep slopes with beautiful waterfalls.

The forest of this sanctuary is dry deciduous thorn mixed forests, dry evergreen scrubs, etc. It is the home of Red Sanders, an endemic species of the area.

Ameenpeer Dargah – Pedda Dargah

Ameen Peer Dargah (Asthana-e-Magdoom Ilahi Dargah complex) (Badi Dargah, Pedda Dargah) in Kadapa (Cuddapah) is an example of the communal harmony preached by great saints and sages in ancient days. Come Thursday and Friday, scores of pilgrims cutting across religious faiths, throng the the 300-year-old shrine seeking blessings of saints Peerullah Hussaini and Arifullah Hussaini II who lie buried here. Followers of the dargah believe that any wish that one makes at the shrine is always fulfilled. A large number of Hindus, Muslims and people of different faiths are disciples of the shrine. Vontimitta (Ekasilanagaram) – Kodanda Rama Temple

Vontimitta is one of the mandal head quarters of Kadapa district lies at a latitude of 14 degrees 2 minutes, and longitude of 79 degrees 23 minutes E. The small town is situated about a distance of 28 kilometers on the Kadapa- Chennai main road. Vontimitta has a railway station in between Kadapa (Cuddapah) and Rajampet railway stations on Chennai-Mumbai railway line. Tirupathi airport is the nearest airport. 

The temple of Sri Kodandarama is situated towards the south west of the Vontimitta village. The temple had a spacious courtyard and three gopura gateways. The temple  was developed  by the Cholas and Vijayanagara kings. A unique feature of the temple is, the absence of the Hanuman Idol, which makes it a one-of-its kind temple in India. So that it is noticeable that to the east of the eastern gopura of this temple is the temple of Sanjeevaraya (Sri Hanuman) facing west to the main temple.

PUSHPAGIRI – HUB OF TEMPLES

Pushpagiri is one of the holy places in Kadapa district for Hindus. This place is located on the banks of river Pennar (Pinakini) about 16Kms from Kadapa city. Pushpagiri is famous for its numerous temples. This is the only holy place for both Saivas and Vaishnavas (two divisions of Hindu religion). Vaishnavas call it as ‘Madhya Ahobilam’ and Saivas as ‘Madhya Kailasam’. Pushpagiri, also called as ‘Second Hampi’ is one of the important Advaitha mutts established by Sankaracharya. This is the only place in AndhraPradesh where the holy peetham of Sankaracharya located.

Among several temples situated in Pushpagiri, Chennakesava Swamy temple is the largest one.
